CANADIAN POTTERY SERIES - SUSAN THORPE
Susan graduated with a Visual B.A. from the University of Western Ontario in 1974. She did extra studies in pottery with the Waterloo Potters. Now in Calgary, her work is more sculptural.
The baskets shown below date from 1986. They are made by laying strips of clay over a form. Even what would be metal staples in a wood basket are duplicated around the edges in clay. Because there is no need for water tightness, the baskets have no glaze. Only a pottery stain has been used to give the effect of wood.
